vein incompetence, although
superficial incompetence may
also be present. It typically ap-
pears near the ankle around the
malleoli, perhaps because the
subcutaneous tissues are less well
supported here. This accounts
for more than 80% of leg ulcers
worldwide.
Note the absence of ischemic
changes in the toes.
