Anatomy
• Hepatic artery
• First-order division of the hepatic proper artery into right and left hepatic arteries
• Divide the midplane of the liver
• Intersects the gallbladder fossa and inferior vena cava – Cantlie line
• Second-order division
• Supply four distinct sections – right anterior, posterior section; left medial and lateral section
• Third-order division
• Supply eight distinct segments – segments 2-8 (5/8 for right anterior, 6/7 for right posterior
section; 4a/b for left medial, 2/3 for left lateral section)
• Presence of replaced, or accessary hepatic arteries
• Defining hepatic artery should be based on complete dissection, trial
occlusions and radiological support
