P. 31
During surgery, the maxilla, which is
attached to the anterior cheek skin, is
swung laterally as a complete unit, in order
to expose the tumour in the nasopharynx.
Upon the completion of surgery, the maxilla
is returned to its original position and fixed
with titanium mini plates and screws.
This approach provides a wide access,
allowing resection of advanced
tumours that involve the parapharyngeal
space and skull base.
