Aortic calcification in a patient with end-stage renal failure
The aortic wall is “made visible” on a plain X-ray (single arrow). Note the
Tenckhoff catheter (double arrow) in situ for peritoneal dialysis.
Vascular calcification is commonly seen in patients with end-stage renal
failure. It is associated with increase in cardiovascular mortality and
morbidity. In particular, this is a bad news for vascular surgeon as the
vascular calcification makes revascularization procedures (open or
endovascular) technically much more difficult.
