Page 2 - Virtual Vascular Vol 15
P. 2
PREFACE
Preface
The resurgence of Covid-19 has caused again significant disruptions in
medical students teaching. We have stepped up our efforts to provide
you with new virtual clinical experiences of Vascular Surgery patients,
including common and rare conditions, and procedures and devices.
In this issue, we showed successful treatment of thoracic pathology
(acute dissection and aneurysms) using endovascular means, which are
gradually replacing traditional open surgery. We also stressed that long
term follow up is essential.
There was a section on peripheral arterial disease, and differentiation of
digital gangrene from vascular causes and diabetic foot. We showed a
rarely-performed femoro-popliteal bypass with autologous vein conduit.
As usual we encouter some rarer conditions such as celiac artery dissec-
tion, transplant renal artery problems, and iatrogenic problems.
Also included is a section prepared by a medical student. We hope that
this will be of interest to her peers, and to keep this up in future issues.
