Radial Artery Aneurysm
A patient who recently had a coronary artery angiogram via right radial artery Exploration of the radial artery
puncture presented with a pulsatile mass over the previous puncture site.
We noted a small area of skin necrosis.
The hand was well perfused with a good ulnar pulse palpable.
Allen test was negative – which indicates sufficient collateral flow from the ulnar
artery when the radial artery is occluded
Pulsatile mass with Proximal control
small necrotic
patch of skin of radial artery
Fusiform
aneurysm
Distal control
of radial artery
Emergency exploration of the radial artery was performed due to concern for
rupture and bleeding of the aneurysm.
Exploration revealed a fusiform aneurysm of the radial artery rather than a
pseudoaneurysm as was expected after arterial puncture
