(I) NECK DISSECTION
Selective neck dissection a.k.a. staging neck
dissection is performed for patients with
cN0 head and neck tumours. High-risk nodal
basins are removed to cater for possible
microscopic metastasis, which is reported to
be ~ 8%.
Modified radical neck dissection is
performed for patients with cN+ disease,
whereby levels I-V cervical lymph nodes are
removed.
