Page 35 - Head and neck surgery
P. 35
With the surgeon operating at a distance from the
patient in the surgeon’s console, there is a lack of
tactile feedback which is in contrast to conventional
open surgery. This can lead to inadvertent soft tissue
and major vessel injury such as internal carotid
artery.
Internal carotid artery injury can result in torrential
bleeding, stroke and mortality.
Exposed carotid artery can lead to pseudoaneurysm
formation, bleeding stroke and mortality.
