NPC is common in Southern China, including Hong Kong, and the majority are associated with
EBV infection.
Primary treatment is radiotherapy. Patients with advanced tumours receive concurrent
chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Recurrent tumours after radiotherapy is treated by surgery.
Endoscopic and transoral robotic approach is used for the resection of early tumours without
deep invasion.
Maxillary swing approach allows the resection of advanced tumours with invasion of the skull
base and parapharyngeal space.
