Parotid gland is the largest of the three major

                         salivary glands.

Boundaries of the parotid gland include:

                         • Superior – zygomatic arch

                         • Posterior – external acoustic meatus and

                            sternocleidomastoid muscle

                         • Anterior – masseter muscle

The facial nerve (CN VII) pierces the parotid gland

and separates the gland into the superficial and

                         deep lobes:

                         • Superficial lobe – lateral to CNVII

                                                                                                                                         Parotid gland (green)
                         • Deep lobe – medial to CNVII
