Common Femoral Artery Stent

A 69 years old man with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome underwent
radiofrequency ablation. The procedure was complicated by haemorrhage and

acute ischaemia of the right leg. The cardiologists put in a stent in his right
          common femoral artery.

A common femoral stent is not usually placed because it overlies the hip joint and

may be subjected to stress fracture and thrombosis. Common femoral arterial
occlusion is usually treated with open surgery with endarterectomy and patch
          repair.

This is a plain radiograph of the patient’s hip showing the stent in the right
          common femoral artery.
