Seborrheic keratosis is a common benign pigmented skin lesion, especially affecting the
elderly. They are usually brown, black or light tan. The lesions look waxy, scaly and
slightly raised. They usually appear on the head, neck, chest or back.

Seborrheic keratosis does not need any specific treatment, but patients may decide to
have them removed for cosmetic reasons or if they catch on clothing. Treatment is by

curettage or excision under local anesthesia. Biopsy or excision may be indicated to rule
out other differential diagnoses such as lentigo maligna or basal cell carcinoma.
