Carotid Body Tumor
A 59 year old man has a slow growing tumor in the neck extending into the skull base and poste-
rior cranial fossa via the jugular foramen. Angiography showed a typical spraying of the carotids.
These are Paragangliomas (Carotid body tumors / glomus jugulare tumours) which are highly vas-
cular but generally benign. Surgical treatment may be indicated if large or symptomatic but due
to advanced stage on diagnosis often require pre-operative embolization, or even EC-IC bypass.
