Toe Gangrene, Iliac Stenosis
This 96-year-old lady has known peripheral vascular disease with multiple
endovascular operations done to both legs over the years. She last received
angioplasty and stenting to the left SFA two years ago. She presented again
with painful big toe gangrene.
This wet gangrene has typical
characteristics of a softened moist
appearance, swelling, and foul-
smelling discharge. It extends to the
plantar aspect of the sole with no
clear line of demarcation.
Antibiotics should be started
immediately and early surgery to
remove infected and devitalized
tissue is warranted to prevent
septicemia.
