Carotid artery anatomy

          Common carotid artery:

Superficial Left CCA originates form aortic arch
 Temporal artery
          Right CCA from brachiocephalic trunk

Runs in carotid sheath together with Internal jugular vein and

          vagus nerve

Maxillary artery Divides into internal and external carotid artery at carotid
 Occipital artery
          bifurcation

 Facial artery External carotid artery:

          Originates from CCA

Lingual artery Multiple branches supplying the neck and face

 Internal jugular vein
          Internal carotid artery:

          Originates from CCA
External carotid artery Has no branches in the neck

Internal carotid artery It enters the skull through the carotid canal

 Common carotid artery Carotid sheath:
 Superior Thyroid
artery Fibrous tissue that surrounds the vascular structures in the
 Vagus nerve neck

Contains the common carotid artery, internal carotid artery ,

Vertebral artery internal jugular vein and vagus nerve

 Subclavian artery
