Fatal complications of Type A Dissection
Video
Acute Stanford Type A thoracic aortic dissection is a disease with high mortality- Risk of
TEVAR Insertion Short.mp4 mortality being 50% in the first 48 hours without surgical treatment . This Figure shows
the dissection flap (arrow) involving the ascending aorta (hence classified as Standford
Type A). The dissection flap often extends distally to the descending thoracic aorta
(arrow) and infrarenal aorta

PERCUTANEOUS TEVAR A short video showing the percutaneous
insertion of a Thoracic Endovascular Graft delivery system (7.7mm
diameter) into the R common femoral artery. Type A dissection, death may be caused by stroke as a result of innominate and left
common carotid involvement by the dissection. Dissection to the aortic root may also
lead to cardiac tamponade (single arrow) and coronary compromise (double arrow).
4 Additional risks are rupture, and distal (bowel and limb) vessel compromise. 5
