Air Filtration Systems HyperHEPA Replacement Filter Systems (IQAir, Blumenfeldstrasse, Switzerland) are used

around the world in the hospital wards and laboratories. They provide filtration of ultrafine
allergen particles, bacteria, viruses, and capture 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns and larger

and can even filter particles down to 0.003 microns.

The flexible suction arm is positioned near the patient’s face to capture airborne droplets

which are expelled by coughing and sneezing. As a result it is hoped that the risk of
infection within the patient’s room can be greatly reduced (not totally eliminated) as the
contaminated air is filtered in the 3-stage filtration process.

It was used in most Hong Kong hospitals during SARS epidemic and is now used during the
COVID-19 epidemic, especially for high risk patients who have respiratory symptoms or
those who need tracheostomy or ventilator support.
