Sapheno-Femoral Ligation and Stripping Pneumatic Compression
TRENDELENBURG OPERATION, or “flush” of “high” ligation of the sapheno-femoral junction
is the standard operation to treat varicose veins due to sapheno-femoral and great greater
saphenous vein (GSV) reflux. After ligation the GSV close to the SF Junction and dividing the
tributaries. A metal or plastic stripper is advanced (in this case caudally) into the GSV to exit a
site around the knee. The vein is tied to the stripper and the GSV is “stripped” from knee to Pneumatic Compression 480 Voice.mp4
the groin wound. Hemostasis can easily be achieved by local pressure and bandaging.

Intermittent Pneumatic Compression is used for conservative treatment of lymphoedema.
