Through a small transverse incision over the mark, the fascia is
divided longitudinally so as to not damage the sural nerve nearby.
The proximal SSV is divided between artery forceps and transfixed with
3/0 vicryl or 3/0 silk sutures. Due to the proximity with the sural nerve
(arrowed), stripping of the short saphenous vein is NOT advised, as this
may result in numbness at the back of the calf.
