The arteries in the foot were very small, with absent digital arteries, corresponding the Intravenous iloprost , a synthetic analogue of prostacyclin PGI2 (Ilomedine, Bayer
ischaemic territory. Such distal occlusive disease was not amenable to angioplasty or HealthCare) caused peripheral vasodilation. It was administered via a peripheral
bypass. venous catheter with an infusion pump, with continuous ECG monitoring. The dosage
had to be titrated based on the body weight and patient’s tolerance of side effects,
which included flushing, dizziness, palpitations, angina pectoris, hypotension, and
fever. Iloprost was contraindicated in patients with coronary artery disease, pulmonary
congestion, and arrhythmias.
