ROBOTIC SURGERY

Robotic-assisted surgery was developed to
overcome the limitations of pre-

existing minimally-invasive surgical

procedures and to enhance the capabilities of

surgeons performing open surgery.

This video shows the surgeon operating on a
patient with oropharyngeal cancer at the

surgeon’s console. A flexible camera port

together with two instrument arms are

introduced via the patient’s oral cavity. The
surgeon’s view can also be displayed on

monitors inside the operating theatre.
