TRANS-ORAL ROBOTIC SURGERY
(TORS)
With the advent of robot surgical systems, early
tumours in the nasopharynx, oropharynx and
laryngo-pharyngeal apparatus can be resected
under direct vision via the oral cavity, obviating
the need for maxillary swing and split-lip
mandibulotomy approaches.
A flexible camera and two surgical instrument
arms are introduced via the oral cavity for
tumour extirpation – trans-oral robotic surgery
(TORS).
