Definitive radiotherapy +/- chemotherapy is offered as first-line treatment for the majority
of patients with PE tumour.
The most striking advantage of chemoradiotherapy over surgery is laryngeal preservation i.e.
patient retains the ability to speak with his own voice.
Surgery frequently entails total laryngectomy whereby one loses the ability to speak with his own
voice.The ability to eat per oral is not affected.
