Page 19 - Head and neck surgery
P. 19
Challenge in the surgical management of PE
tumour lies in its deep-seated location
behind the manubrium bone (M) in close
proximity to great vessels in the lower neck
and superior mediastinum.
Scarring from previous surgery and/or
radiotherapy further increases the
complexity of surgery.
Last but not least, many of these patients are
nutritionally deprived with poor lung
function. This in turn increases operative
risks.
