The most common benign salivary gland tumours
include pleomorphic adenoma and Warthin’s
tumour.
Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign
salivary gland tumour. The incidence of malignant
transformation increases with the duration of
tumour and hence surgery should be considered.
Warthin’s tumour is the second most common
benign salivary gland tumour. Approximately 15%
occur bilaterally. It is exceptionally rare for these
tumours to become malignant (<1%). Indication for
surgery include repeated episodes of infection.
