Venous Thrombectomy
SZH LCIV Stent.mp4
A 75 year old man with a two weeks history of L leg swelling was diagnosed to
have L iliac vein DVT. It was treated with a mechanical thrombectomy via the left
popliteal vein. Pulmonary embolism protection was effected via a IVC balloon
placed via the right femoral vein. After thrombectomy a L common iliac vein
stent (Wallstent) was placed to maintain patency.
Venous interventions are increasingly performed. This patient was treated in
HKU-SZH. While long term results are unclear, with some reports of stent migra-
tion and fractures, this is an emerging technology in Vascular Surgery.
