Carotid Endarterectomy (Shunt)

An elderly lady in her late 80s presented with multiple episodes of total loss of left eye
vision with spontaneous complete recovery within a few minutes, symptoms consistent with
amaurosis fugax. Duplex showed 70-80% stenosis of both proximal internal carotid arteries.

The left carotid stenosis is therefore symptomatic and in view of severe calcification and
tortuous internal carotid artery, we offered left carotid endarterectomy under plexus block.
