Note the gross edema. This is in contradiction to presentation of arterial ischemia where there
is lack of blood supply to the extremities. In DVT, with extensive venous congestion of deep +/-
superficial venous system extending to capillary network, there is gross venous ischemia. This
is venous gangrene, an uncommon complication of DVT.
