(I) Fluid resuscitation
Isotonic crystalloids (e.g. Hartmann’s
solution) is recommended and should be
warmed whenever possible.
Fluid resuscitation is given initially as per the
Modified Parkland Formula:
2-4ml x weight (kg) x % burn TBSA
Half of the calculated volume is
administered in the first eight hours from
the time of the burn injury.
The remaining half is given over the next
sixteen hours.
The adequacy of fluid resuscitation is
monitored by hourly urine output which is
aimed at 0.5ml/Kg/hr in adult patients.
Indwelling urinary catheter is inserted for
monitoring of hourly urine output.
