(I) Fluid resuscitation

           Isotonic crystalloids (e.g. Hartmann’s

solution) is recommended and should be

           warmed whenever possible.

Fluid resuscitation is given initially as per the

          Modified Parkland Formula:

                2-4ml x weight (kg) x % burn TBSA

Half of the calculated volume is

administered in the first eight hours from

the time of the burn injury.

The remaining half is given over the next

           sixteen hours.

The adequacy of fluid resuscitation is

monitored by hourly urine output which is

aimed at 0.5ml/Kg/hr in adult patients.

Indwelling urinary catheter is inserted for

          monitoring of hourly urine output.
