Vascular anomalies
Vascular anomalies is an evolving field that
incorporates surgical and medical specialties.
Because these disorders usually involve the skin,
the initial consultation is therefore often with a
plastic surgeon.
Vascular anomalies are divided into tumour or
malformations.
Vascular tumours are endothelial neoplasms
characterized by increased endothelial turnover.
Infantile hemangioma is the most common.
Other examples of vascular tumours are
congenital hemangioma,
hemangioendothelioma, pyogenic granuloma
and angiosarcoma.
Vascular malformations are the result of
abnormal development of vascular elements
during embryogenesis. They are classified
according to the predominant channel type.
These include capillary malformation, lymphatic
malformation, venous malformation, and
arteriovenous malformation.
