In the absence of an identifiable primary, patients
would undergo neck dissection followed by
wide-field radiotherapy spanning the skull base
and lower neck with the hope of eradicating
small primary tumours within the upper
aerodigestive tract.
With TORS, tonsillar tissue within the
oropharynx, in particular lingual tonsils in the
tongue base can be removed as a last resort to
identify the primary within the oropharynx.
