The hypopharynx is located behind the larynx,

below the oropharynx , and just above the

esophagus.

The hypopharynx extends from the hyoid bone

down to the lower end of the cricoid cartilage.

A muscular sphincter made up of the

cricopharyngeus muscle separates the

hypopharynx and the cervical esophagus.
