        The picture shows the extensive vascular calcification in a patient with end-stage renal failure.


        The aorta including its visceral branches as well as the iliacs are visible on a plain X-ray. Note
        the Tenckhoff catheter (arrow)  for peritoneal dialysis.



        Plain axial CT scan (above) also shows clearly the arterial calcification


        Vascular calcification is commonly seen in patients with end-stage renal failure. It is associated
        with increase in cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. Open vascular surgical intervention
        would be extremely difficult in this sort of arteries. Fortunately, extensive calcification to such
        a degree and requiring open surgery is not frequently encountered.
