Femoral Embolectomy for Acute Lower Limb Ischemia
Typical presentation of
acute limb ischemia:
Acute onset of lower limb
Pain, Paraesthesia, Pallor,
Pulseless, Paralysis and
Perishing cold.
1. Clinical Diagnosis of acute left lower limb ischemia made by 6 x ‘P’s
2. Initial Management:
IV heparin bolus (5000 units or according to body weight)
Prepare for emergency operation (femoral embolectomy)
Vascular sling around Common
Femoral Artery

a. Groin incision
b. Proximal and distal
control of vessels (CFA,
SFA, PFA)
Profunda Femoris Artery
