Retained IV cannula

                                         Intravenous cannulation

IV cannula set up is a common procedure in the hospital setting. IV cannula
has size ranges from 14G to26G (The large the number, the smaller the

diameter). Rate of fluid infusion is directly proportional to the diameter AND
inversely proportional to the length of the cannula.

The more commonly used cannula for usual indications such as antibiotics
injection is 20G or 22G. Bigger cannula (e.g. 16G or 18G) is used during
              aggressive resuscitation.

The plastic portion of the cannula is made of PTEF (Poly-Tetra-Fluro-Ethylene)
or FEP (Flurinated-Ethylene) or PUR (Polyurethane) that allows placement in

vein for a reasonable period of time.
