Gangrene
A 98-year old diabetic man who is wheelchair bound presented with progressive
gangrene of his left big toe with spreading infection to the forefoot. Physical exam
revealed mainly small vessel disease. In view of his age, co-morbidity and non-am-
bulant status, an above-knee amputation would provide the fastest route to wound
healing.
