Abdominal distension and a loss of the left psoas shadow, very suggestive of retroperitoneal
bleeding from a ruptured AAA.
The Yellow arrow on the Plain X-ray refers to “psoas line” or “psoas shadow”. This is the
“line” usually seen on plain abdominal X-ray, which delineates the lateral margin of the psoas
muscles. In this lady, there was obliteration of psoas shadow on the left side and this would
suggest retroperitoneal pathologies such as haematoma, abscess or mass on the left side of
the abdomen
