Vascular Lab Video: CW Doppler
Artery and vein doppler.mp4
Using a hand held, CONTINUOUS WAVE DOPPLER to demonstrated the difference between an
arterial and venous signal. The arterial signal is characteristically pulsatile. Venous signals are
pick up adjacent to the artery and are lower-pitched, more continuous and phasic and aug-

chronic renal failure. The dorsalis dedis artery (single arrow) and
posterior tibial artery (double arrow) are “visible” on this plain X-ray
Such extensive calcification would lead to a falsely elevated ankle-brachial
index (ABI). Thus, a thorough physical examination of pulses is still
required even with a “normal” ABI. 55
