Circumferential burn
Deep dermal / full thickness burn wound loses
its ability to expand as edema progresses. This
in turn may lead to compromised limb and/or
digital circulation, and chest and abdominal
wall expansion. The latter of which may lead
to difficulty in ventilation.
Emergency escharotomy should be
performed to release the circumferential
constricting effect by incising the burnt skin
a.k.a. eschar down to the subcutaneous fat.
