Smoke – inhalational injury has to be
suspected:
Burn injury sustained within an enclosed
space
Burns with associated explosion
Facial burn
Singed nasal hairs
Carbonaceous sputum
Hoarseness +/- stridor
Elevated carboxy-haemoglobin levels
Endoscopic photos showing
carbonaceous soot, exudation
and tissue slough in lower
airway.
