Principles in the management of burn in
paediatric populations are similar to that of
adults.
The most significant differences between
children and adults are:
Larger surface area to body weight ratio
• Higher metabolic rate
• Greater evaporation and water loss
• Greater heat loss

one and hence one must be vigilant in
preventing hypothermia
