Neurofibroma
Benign tumours derived from peripheral nerves
and supporting stromal cells including
neurilemmal cells, Schwann cells and fibroblasts
Three forms:
Visceral
Peripheral
Plexiform
A diffuse type of neurofibroma arising from
superficial or cutaneous nerve
characterized by myxoid degeneration
Highly vascular
Neurofibromatosis is the occurrence of multiple
neurofibromata
Type 1 (NF1)
Type 2 (NF2)
Risk of sarcomatous change
Suspect if increase in size, pain or ulceration
