Neurofibroma

 Benign tumours derived from peripheral nerves

          and supporting stromal cells including

neurilemmal cells, Schwann cells and fibroblasts

       Three forms:

           Visceral

           Peripheral

           Plexiform

A diffuse type of neurofibroma arising from

                   superficial or cutaneous nerve

                   characterized by myxoid degeneration

                Highly vascular

 Neurofibromatosis is the occurrence of multiple

           neurofibromata

           Type 1 (NF1)

           Type 2 (NF2)

       Risk of sarcomatous change

 Suspect if increase in size, pain or ulceration
