Schwannoma

      Benign nerve sheath tumour of Schwann

          cells



      Unknown aetiology


      Commonly presents as an asymptomatic


          eccentric slow-growing nodule extrinsic


          to a nerve


      Head and neck, and flexor surfaces of


          limbs are the commonest sites


      Contrast MRI can be used to aid


          diagnosis


      Indications                          for             excision                    include


          disfigurement or symptoms e.g. pressure


          effects or neurological deficits.
