Schwannoma
/Neurolemmoma
Benign nerve sheath tumour of Schwann
cells
Unknown aetiology
Commonly presents as an asymptomatic
eccentric slow-growing nodule extrinsic
to a nerve
Head and neck, and flexor surfaces of
limbs are the commonest sites
Contrast MRI can be used to aid
diagnosis
Indications for excision include
disfigurement or symptoms e.g. pressure
effects or neurological deficits.
