Antenatal counselling

and diagnosis

 Prenatal ultrasound scans can be

used to detect cleft lip and palate.

Technically it is easier to diagnose

cleft lip with prenatal ultrasound

when compared to isolated cleft

palate.

 It is important to counsel parents

antenatally for reassurance and

introduction to the cleft lip/palate

protocol .

 Some cases would require referral for

genetic screening.

 Explanation about the possible

feeding issue and for preparation for

purchasing special feeding bottles.
