DIAGNOSIS
Fine needle aspiration for cytology may be performed under ultrasonographic guidance of
the the primary tumour and any enlarged intra-parotid and/or cervical lymph nodes suspicious of
metastasis.
Contrast-enhanced MRI with a diffusion sequence of the neck and skull base is recommended
for patients with suspicion of salivary gland cancer with concern for perineural invasion and/or
skull base involvement.
Whole-body PET scan may be offered to those with advanced-stage and/or high-grade
tumours.
