Symptoms include lower limb swelling and pain due to venous outflow
obstruction. The skin may be cold to touch and cyanotic in colour. The distal
pulses may be palpable or being heard by a hand held Doppler machine.
Severe disease may cause blistering or venous gangrene.
Patients should be managed with fluid resuscitation, analgesics, and limb
elevation. In selected patients surgical management such as catheter-directed
thrombolysis, surgical/ endovenos thrombectomy and fasciotomy can be
performed. 67
