Haemangiomas
A baby boy has a red lesion in the scalp above the right ear. It appeared when the child
was several weeks old and gradually increased in size. The mother was concerned
because it bled once or twice on combing the hair.
The diagnosis is a cutaneous haemangioma, sometimes called a strawberry naevus. It
consisted of small blood vessels cluster together under the skin. They may appear at
birth (birthmark) or appear when the infant is several weeks old, and tend to regress
before the age of ten.
Treatment is usually conservative. If they are very big, the use of oral propranolol
hydrochloride (Hemangeol) can be tried, or else treat by lasers or surgery.
In this case, it was treated conservatively, and the lesion regressed with time.
