Skin Graft
As you might recall from a
previous issue, this gentleman
with a diabetic foot received a
great toe amputation due to
infected gangrene.
The initial goal of
management is thorough
debridement of devitalized
and infected tissue.
The next step of management
would be wound closure.
Negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT) or vacuum-assisted wound
closure (VAC) is an adjunct to standard dressing that promotes wound
healing by increasing local perfusion, granulation, and contraction.
The wound is covered with foam in a vacuum manner and connected to a 41
suction pressure of 80 mmHg.
