Type II Endoleaks

TYPE II ENDOLEAK, or a retro leak, is the most common form of endoleak after
EVAR. It can occur in 10-20% of patients and usually arises from retrograde flow from a
patent large branch of the aneurysm sac. Examples include lumbar arteries or the infe-
rior mesenteric artery. They are relatively benign but can be a long term problem with
continuous sac pressurization and enlargement. A persistent type II endoleak with aneu-
rysm sac enlargement is an indication for secondary intervention.
