Venous malformation

The most common presentation in adults is the

varicosity of the leg’s superficial veins

It presents as a blue or purple lesion with

spongy texture, swelling in dependent position

and deflating when elevated. It can be

sensitive to hormonal changes and enlarge

        during puberty and/or pregnancy.

        Treatment

        1) Compression garments

        2) Sclerothepray. Intra-lesional injection of

               sclerosing agent such as sodium

               tetradecyl sulphate

        3) Combined sclerotherapy and surgical

               resection

        Complications:

 Episodes of thrombosis and pain

         Localized intravascular coagulation that

            could evolve into disseminated intravascular

            coagulation but is rare
