Venous malformation
The most common presentation in adults is the
varicosity of the leg’s superficial veins
It presents as a blue or purple lesion with
spongy texture, swelling in dependent position
and deflating when elevated. It can be
sensitive to hormonal changes and enlarge
during puberty and/or pregnancy.
Treatment
1) Compression garments
2) Sclerothepray. Intra-lesional injection of
sclerosing agent such as sodium
tetradecyl sulphate
3) Combined sclerotherapy and surgical
resection
Complications:
Episodes of thrombosis and pain
Localized intravascular coagulation that
could evolve into disseminated intravascular
coagulation but is rare
